The striking design of the panna meena ka knud stepwell was originally developed to be more practical & functional than aesthetically pleasing. while it's now a heavily photographed tourist spot, it was created to be a collector of rain water during monsoon season, and to preserve water for the drier months. the steps allow for people to reach the water no matter the level. eventually, it became a central meeting point for the community both to bathe and wash clothes, but also just to gather and catch up on each other's lives. photo by @i_pe. #traveldeeper
